What Coimbatore's steel trade looks like

Containers move through CONCOR's depot at Irugur, which serves Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode, Namakkal and Pollachi and sent its first export container out through Kochi, and NH 544 runs the length of the belt. For a trader that means buying by the tonne from mills a district or two away, and selling by the kilo or the piece to shops that order little and often.

Ordered vs actual weight

Every line carries the weight ordered and the weight actually loaded, and the challan and bill use the loaded figure. Tonnage conversions cover bar, rod, flat, sheet, pipe and structurals.

Sizes carry their own weight

The product, size and HSN catalogue holds each bar and section size with its unit weight, so a line booked in pieces or metres converts to tonnes on the challan without a side calculation.
