How pipe weight is worked out
Each pipe size in your catalogue stores the weight of one piece and its standard length — for example a 6-metre length. When an order line is entered in metres, SteelERP converts it to kilograms as metres × piece weight ÷ standard length. The answer does not depend on how the pipe is cut, and it drives the per-kg loading cost on the order. A line entered in kilograms is used as it is.
A line can be marked to load by piece count, so the loader counts pipes while the challan still records the actual quantity and weight loaded. When one order mixes kilogram, metre and piece lines, it is split into delivery sub-orders by unit, each with its own loading, challan and delivery status. Sizes, weights and prices can be imported from a spreadsheet instead of typed in one by one.
