What Hyderabad's steel trade looks like

Jai Raj Ispat's Jeedimetla plant makes TMT bars and MS billets, and the company calls it the first facility in Hyderabad to adopt continuous casting for TMT rebars. Hariom Pipe Industries, with its head office at Attapur, makes HR, GI, GP and MS pipes along with HR coils and billets, from units at Sheriguda in Mahabubnagar district. Pennar Industries, registered in Kondapur with its corporate office at IDA Patancheru, makes cold rolled steel strips, precision tubes, cold rolled formed sections and railway wagon and coach components.

The trade itself has long sat at Ranigunj in Secunderabad — the old Queen's Market, and later the city's hardware and tools quarter — while the industrial estates run by TGIIC, which says it has developed 156 industrial parks across 28,458 acres, hold the workshops. What they build is unusual for a steel market: Telangana's own investment pages put 40% of India's drug production in the state, there is an aerospace SEZ at Adibatla where Tata, Lockheed Martin, GE Aviation and Boeing have set up, and BHEL's Hyderabad unit, running since 1963, makes turbines, compressors, heat exchangers, pumps and oil rigs.

Hyderabad is the landlocked one. Exports leave through ports in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, CONCOR's inland container depot at Sanathnagar has been rail-linked since 1998, and a rail service launched in August 2026 connects the Ennore and Chennai port cluster directly to it. For a trader that means steel arrives by rail and road in part loads, and goes out again in whatever mix of TMT, pipe and strip a workshop ordered.
